Director of Finance

Job Description

Bread for the City is a private, nonprofit organization that provides vulnerable residents of Washington, DC with comprehensive services including food, clothing, social services, legal assistance and medical care in an atmosphere of dignity and respect. Through the efforts of volunteers and community members, our staff serves several thousand people each month. All of our services are free.

 

We are looking for a Director of Finance who will be responsible for managing the day‐to‐day operations of a newly developed finance department.

 

The Director of Finance will be responsible for all accounting functions including: A/R, A/P, processing payroll, processing all transfers and deposits, monthly bank reconciliation, cash flow projections, developing and monitoring the annual budget, preparing and distributing monthly/quarterly financial statements with actual to budget variance analysis. Duties also include monitoring fixed assets and the depreciation schedule, preparation for external audit and tax filings. Also responsible for preparing reports and grant budgets in cooperation with the Executive Director and Development Department.

 

The Director of Finance hires and supervises staff who assist with administrative duties that include managing all insurance policies, employee benefits, and personnel administrative functions. The Director will also oversee all HR functions.

 

Minimum requirements include:

• BA and formal training in accounting, finance, business administration or other related field required

• MBA or CPA preferred

• At least 7 years of financial and administrative management experience

• Experience in a nonprofit environment with expertise in fund accounting and accounting for fundraising—experience with a direct services organization is a plus

• Adeptness in budget preparation, analysis and financial planning

• Supervisory experience

• Familiarity with grants management

• Experience with BlackBaud's Financial Edge accounting package

• Knowledge of employee benefits administration

• Experience with Microsoft Office, especially Excel

• Excellent communication and interpersonal skills

• Capability to streamline financial processes that will enhance overall operations and effectiveness of the organization

• Ability to analyze and report to management and board of directors

• Desire and capacity to work for a nonprofit organization and as part of a dynamic team
