Bread for the City's new blog, Beyond Bread, to learn more about our work around hunger, food access, and nutrition.
Holiday Helpings is our favorite time of year. We're distributing complete holiday feasts -- a turkey and all the trimmings -- to more than 8,000 of DC's poorest families. (Learn more here.) With your support, we'll ensure that even our most vulnerable neighbors will be able to share a celebratory holiday meal in the dignity of their own homes. Just $28 will provide Holiday Helpings to a family of four. Give to Holiday Helpings today.

Updated Service hours
As of April 1st (and until further notice),
Both of Bread for the City’s centers (1525 7th Street, NW & 1640 Good Hope Road, SE) will be closed to clients on Friday. Operational hours for our buildings will be Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm.
Our Legal Clinics in both locations will provide only brief advice and referrals on Mondays, 1-3 pm. We will no longer be able to accept external requests for legal representation.
Our Food Pantries in both locations will be open to clients Monday-Thursday, 9am-12pm & 1-5pm. We ask that new and recertifying clients arrive before 4:30pm. Our eligibility requirements have not changed: To receive food from our pantry on a monthly basis, clients must be low-income and elderly, disabled, or have dependents under the age of 18 living in the household, AND live in NW, SE, or SW Washington, DC. Please click here for a description of the proofs we request.
Our Medical Clinic (NW center) will be open Monday-Thursday, 9am-12pm & 1-5pm. The clinic will also be open on Tuesday evenings, 5-6:30pm. To be seen in the Medical clinic, patients should call 202-386-7020 to make an appointment.
Our Social Services program at the NW center will be open for walk-ins and calls on Mondays, Tuesdays & Thursdays, 9-10:30am and 2:30-4pm; 2:30-4pm on Wednesdays. In SE, Social Services staff will be available Monday-Thursday, 9:30-11:30am to assist clients who walk-in or call.
Staff in our Representative Payee Program (RPP) will be available to assist walk-ins on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday, 9-11am and 1-4pm; Wednesdays 1-4pm. RPP clients can pick up checks in both sites Monday-Thursday 9am-5pm, and 9am-12pm on Fridays at 1537 Seventh St NW (only location).
As we continue to assess our situation, we promise to keep the lines of communication open. Thank you, as always, for your support and understanding.
Please contact Executive Directive George Jones (202.386.7602 or gjones@breadforthecity.org) if you have any questions or feedback.
